Kindle Fire is poised to make an explosive entrance into the tablet computer market. With leading edage technology from Amazon and Android, they have pulled out all the stops in order to make the newest top of the line Kindle Fire an iPad 2 killer.
Not only does the Kindle Fire match the iPad 2 spec for spec, but it actually uses some cutting edge technology to end up be a game changer. Things like the all new from the ground up cloud assisted Silk browser, and the ability to store your content for free on Amazon’s cloud servers make it simply revolutionary.
The Silk browser (as in smooth as silk) leverages the power of Amazon’s server farms. When you make a request for some web content from your Kindle Fire, the cloud servers actaully get the request and do the heavy lifting of resolving domains, fetching content, etc. Then it’s compressed and sent to the actual browser. This system isn’t really needed when you are sitting at home on your 16 Mb Charter Pipeline. But when you are on a crowded wifi network with all the built in latency issues of wireless, you’ll think you died and went to heaven. It’s lightning quick, smooth as silk, and it just works.
The cloud storage takes the tablet into new territory also. Instead of having just the onboard storage of your device, 8 Gb in the case of the Kindle Fire, 16 Gb in the case of the Aple iPad 2, you now have unlimited Cloud storage. Should you ever back over your Kindle Fire, you simply replace it, and away you go. No muss, no fuss. Why didn’t somebody think of this sooner? And this is Amazon, so that storage isn’t going to go anywhere. Backed up, redundant servers, uninterruptible power supplies, you name it. The Amazon cloud storage is truly a world class server farm. And you get it’s full leverage with your little handheld device. You make a simple web request, and their server farm goes to work for you. You can’t beat it.
Now let’s talk about maybe the single biggest issue. Price. I could probably tell you that the Kindle Fire costs $100 more than the iPad 2 because of all the technology improvements over the iPad 2. And you’d probably go, OK that sounds about right. But what if I told you the Kindle Fire is $199, a full $300 less than the iPad 2? You’d say it was too good to be true, right? Well it’s not. You can draw your own conclusions about who is nuts here. Either Apple is selling an extremely overpriced table to people with a fan club mentality, or Amazon is giving the Kindle Fire away. Take your pick. I don’t know the answer. All I know is that for $300 more that iPad 2 better be able to slice, dice, gimme a back rub, and tuck me in at night. Or it better come with soem kind of ridiculous warranty that guarantees me 2.5 new iPad’s should something happen to mine. Because at $199 you can buy a second Kindle Fire and have $100 in your pocket to go spend on something alot more practical than an overpriced, overhyped, under featured iPad. Gimme a break. Apple must be out of their gourd. $499 for a $199 piece of merchandise. Holy Cow. The $199 Amazon Kindle Fire. On sale here – Kindle Fire.
